Excel Interface

This window creates a graph and a table in Excel from Ansys or CivilFEM vectors. It is available through the ~VWXLS command. The appearance of the window is the following:

A name for the resulting graph file may be introduced. It is mandatory if any automatic saving option is selected. Also a title for the graphic can be specified, although it is optional.

At first, an array with the X values must be chosen. In the “Array 0” spread list, the names of the variables that have only one dimension (vectors) and are array-type (not table-type) will appear. It is also possible an automatic numbering (auto-numbering) for the X variable, that will assign the 1,2,3,4,5,… values.

It must be taken into account that if there are no proper Ansys variables, the Y spread list will appear empty. Once the X vector is selected, the first Y spread list will be enabled.

The first Y spread list does also show the names of all defined vectors. If a variable with the Y values is selected, an automatic color will be assigned to it (it may be changed when needed), and will be associated to the graph’s primary axis. At the same time, a new spread list will be enabled for the next Y variable, in order to represent more vectors on the same graph.

With just one series we  may generate the graph.

The process may be repeated up to 15 vectors for Y variable. All these values will be represented on a graph, in the same axis. It is also an option to choose a color for each of these Y vectors, or if it is going to be assigned automatically by EXCEL, so the resulting graph will be as clear as possible. When a Y vector has quite different values from the others, it may be represented in a secondary axis (2nd Axis), with an independent scale of the primary axis.  The respective checkbox must be checked for this.

Color selection. The 0 color means ‘automatic’, and it is assigned by Excel.

In this example four independent results appear, two with automatic color in the primary axis, one with blue color in the secondary axis, and a fourth result with black color also in the secondary axis.

To delete Y values, the spread list’s empty position is selected and all the spread list and the following ones will be deleted.

The Excel file name to which the graph is saved, is only necessary if any of the saving option is chosen. The title is the one that will be assigned to the Excel graph. The Exit option will indicate Excel the automatically or non-automatically file savings, and even quit the program. This can be very useful to automate the graph’s generation with the ~VWXLS command.

Automatic saving  Excel options:

0  – Keeps Excel open and does not save the graph.

1 – Keeps Excel open and automatically saves the graph, asking if already exists a file with the same name.

2 – Keeps Excel open and automatically saves the graph without asking, even if it already exists a file with the same name (it will replace it).

3 – Automatically saves the graph without asking, even if  already exists a file with the same name (it will replace it), and exits Excel.

In the example, the window with all the select options is hereafter shown. If the Preview button is pressed, the same result as pressing the OK button will be obtained but the file will not be saved and the window will not be closed, resulting in easier testing.

And the Excel format results are:
